Lewis County Middle School Addition and Renovation
Vanceburg, Kentucky

The district had a need for more instructional space and a more welcoming entrance for the existing gymnasium.  The solution included new areas for a computer lab, music room and art room.  A smart use of space now integrates the new lobby common area into the flow of the existing building.  And a trophy case at the lobby off of the gym honors the school’s athletic and academic achievements. The dramatic and expansive new entry brings an abundance of view and light into the building.  In return, occupants enjoy gracious views of the landscape and the common space outside.  Large canopies cantilever out past the building façade to draw in visitors.  And the flow between the interior and exterior is enhanced by the extensive use of masonry on the interior.
