This project consisted of the renovation and adaptation of the Wolf Wiles Department Store on East Main Street in Lexington, Kentucky for the home office of the James N. Gray Company. Lucas/Schwering Architects worked closely with the Gray staff and was the Architect of Record for the project. Major design components of the existing structure were enhanced both inside and out. A new 100 foot central skylight provide natural light source to all four floors of the building. The site development has created one of the finest urban spaces in the area and the interior spaces support Gray’s design-build team business philosophy. This building is listed on the National Register of Historical Places. Lucas/Schwering Architects was the recipient of an honor award by the Kentucky Society of Architects for excellence in architectural design.
