Larry Schwering
As a 1974 graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Architecture and the International School of Art and Architecture in Venice, Italy, Larry's interests in energy conservation and architectural history were further solidified in studies abroad; specifically the works of 16th century architect Andrea Palladio. He has also taught courses in building materials/ construction and construction management at the Lexington Technical Institute and was a featured speaker at the Thoroughbred International Exposition and Conference in 2003.
On May 1, 1989, Larry co-founded Lucas/Schwering Architects, becoming its President and CEO in November 2003. He has been involved with the planning, design and construction administration of a variety of project types including educational, equine, medical, industrial, commercial, and manufacturing facilities.
A commitment to client service and successful project completion has contributed to maintaining the firms' high percentage of repeat clients. Larry is a member of the American Institute of Architects and is licensed to practice architecture in Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana, Virginia, Ohio, New York, West Virginia, and Nevada.
Michael Sparkman, AIA, LEED AP
A native of Lexington and a 1993 graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Architecture, Mike has a variety of experiences that define his role in the firm. From 1994 to 1996 he attended Cornell University, earning his Master of Architecture from the graduate program. While there he served as a teaching assistant for the Department of architecture honing communication and research skills. From there he went on to practice as an architect in Boston and Cambridge Massachusetts. During this time he worked on many large scale city projects centered around urban design and planning such as the public bus system for the Massachusetts Transportation Authority and Tren Urbano, a light rail public train system in Puerto Rico. He has also acted as project architect for several renovation projects in the city that focused on rehabilitating existing aged industrial buildings.
Since arriving at Lucas/Schwering Mike has designed and managed a number of large public school projects across Kentucky including several vocational, elementary, middle, and high school structures. His daily roles include project management and design.
Mark Clary
A 1985 graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Architecture, Mark continued his education at Cornell University where he earned Master of Architecture. While at the University of Kentucky, Mark taught various design studios, served as a thesis advisor, and assisted in the development of curriculum at the College of Architecture. He has lectured regionally and nationally on theoretical designs, models, and drawings as well as served as a visiting critic at various universities. Prior to joining Lucas/Schwering Architects, he led and assisted in the presentation phase of design and development of various correctional facilities at the regional and national levels and now serves as an active team member in project design.
Marcus Highland
Marcus is a graduate of both Lexington Community College and the University of Kentucky College of Architecture in 2000. NCARB certified and pursuing LEEDs certification, Marcus has contributed to numerous residential, educational, commercial, and healthcare projects. He has also been working as project manager for several renovation projects.
Pamela Clements
A 2002 graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Architecture, Pam received the Alpha Rho Chi Medal; a distinguished honor for professional leadership and student accomplishment. She is also currently working toward architectural registration. Pam has been actively involved in a variety of equine and residential projects and has been instrumental in developing the firm's approach to building information modeling.
Katrina Littrell
Katrina is a 2002 graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Architecture where she was a recipient of the prestigous AIA Henry Adams Medal. She also earned a Masters of Architecture from the University of Pennsylvannia. Katrina has participated in a variety of projects ranging from equine to commerical but with a focus on educational where she has contributed to all project phases, from schematic design to construction administration.
Chris Johnson
Chris is a 2002 gradutate of the Univerisity of Kentucky College of Architecture and has been working primarily with educational and commerical projects within the firm, particulary in the construction document phase. He is currently working on architectural registration and brings to the design process an urban sensibility through his personal furniture projects and active involvement in the local art and music scene, including shows in Lexington's Gallery Hop.
Nathaniel A. Anderson
Nathan is a graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Architecture. While enrolled at Lexington Community College and the College of Architecture, he was employed full time with several architectural firms and thus is familiar with a broad range of building typologies, namely, churches, housing authorities, courthouses, prisons, jails, fire stations and restaurants.
Lori Mills
Lori graduated from Central Kentucky Technical College with an Associate Degree in Applied Technology. She provides office administration, scheduling, and administrative duties for the firm's architects. Lori is also involved in the development of marketing materials and presentation preparation and has taken steps to become MOUS Certified in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
